Quite frankly, what was released should've rather been a beta or an early access version - it really needs an extra half-a-year in the oven for testing, bugfixing and polishing. It absolutely should not have been released in the state that it is, but there is an ambitious, wonderful game here.Īfter playing it for 5 hours, I can say that I quite enjoyed it, but yeah, there are A LOT of bugs and general jank in the game, and if you approach it like a AAA game instead of an indie game made by a handful of people - you will dislike your experience. But the promise of discovery is ever present and powerful. I do not know where I am, I do not know where I'm going, there's a giant glowing snake in the water below me, and I dread the inevitable path that takes me to it. Homunculi (bonfires) are few and far between, but fast travel is immediately available and you can place one at will to die and return to while exploring. There are myriad branching and secret paths with elevators, shortcuts, and climbable sections. The combat is surprisingly deep, the atmosphere is superb, itemization/customization is vast (I have 5-6 armor sets and maybe a dozen weapons in ~3 hours and haven't even touched the upgrade system), and the lack of any real penalty on death encourages exploration or attempting a challenge you're 110% positive is beyond you. However, I'm having a phenomenal time with it. The menu/interface is something you'd see out of a pre-alpha game. The climbing enemies are tedious to kill. It's floaty, the control scheme is awkward (kb/m), and bugs abound. I played for a few hours this afternoon after launch and YES it is jank as hell.
